I don’t recall ever hearing a sermon preached or an article written on the reliability of God but it’s a wonderful truth. I was reading in 2 Corinthians this morning where Paul says “these things happened so that we wouldn’t rely on ourselves, but on God.” (1:9) I was thinking of circumstances in my own life that forced me to realize that I couldn’t rely on myself or others. In each case, I found God utterly reliable.
I looked up (well, actually asked Siri) the meaning of the word. As an adjective it means “consistently good in quality or performance; able to be trusted.” As a noun it describes “a person with trustworthy qualities.” Those words describe God. He is consistently good. He is able to be trusted. He has qualities that are absolutely trustworthy. He is reliable! No wonder Paul declares, “On Him we have set our hope.” (1:10)
No matter what we face, there is an unchanging God who is utterly and consistently reliable. I needed that reminder, and, like Paul, I set my hope on Him.
Thank you for this reminder. In an uncertain world it is so good to count on his reliability….in all things
Truly. Thinking back to your first book, part of our suffering points us to our need for God…that we we do not have to (any many times cannot anyway) go through it alone. So to be reminded of our need, and then be reminded God is wholly reliable to fill that need, can set our hearts at ease as we traverse the difficult roads we sometimes travel.
Yes, Esther. Through all our Storms. Lonely days, Good days, He is always there AND PROMISES He won’t leave us. I have held onto Him so many days when not knowing what will happen next. Oh how He loves you & me. Love you, Margo
