“Mercy triumphs over judgment!” James 2:13
This is certainly not your typical Christmas verse. In fact, I’ve never once heard anyone preach on this or share this during the Christmas season. But as I read those words this morning, I was struck by the fact that the fulfillment of those words came in the form of a baby born in Bethlehem.
“For unto you is born…a Savior” – triumphant mercy!
“He will save His people from their sins” – triumphant mercy!
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – triumphant mercy!
Mercy means not getting what we deserve. Lying in a manger bed was One sent to suffer what we deserved so that we could receive a gift (grace) which we don’t deserve. Mercy wrapped in swaddling clothes! A baby sent so that mercy would one day triumph over judgment. “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!”
Have a wonderful Christmas!
