My Scripture reading this morning was in 1 Peter. Peter’s prayer for the early Christians was that they would experience “grace and peace in abundance.” He wasn’t just praying for an adequate supply, but an abundance (a generous and overflowing provision) of grace and peace. I suspect that Peter prayed this for them because he had experienced it himself and knew firsthand the generosity of God.

The “in abundance” made me think of the “how much more” in Matthew 7. If we know how to be generous and loving to our children, how much more will our Heavenly Father give good gifts to His children. What a wonderful reminder of the generosity of God. And He proved that by giving His own Son.

It also reminds me of a favorite verse of mine in Ephesians 1:7. “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace which He lavished on us…” Lavish is defined as to bestow something in generous or extravagant quantities. To see the reality of that we have only to look at the cross – a truly lavish display of God’s love and grace .

I pray you will have a day filled with an abundance of grace and peace. I am so grateful for the generosity of God. He truly is a good, good Father!
