Oswald Chambers once challenged a friend with these words: “Be absolutely His!” Imagine what our lives would be like if we truly were absolutely His. I looked up the word “absolutely” in the dictionary, and each definition adds so much more emphasis to that thought. Be unconditionally, wholly, positively, definitely, completely, unquestionably, and totally His. What a privilege to give ourselves in this way to a God whose love is limitless, and whose ways are perfect.
But what is even more amazing is that God is willing to be absolutely ours. Over and over in Scripture He says, “…and I will be their God.” He continually worked to restore relationship with His people, Israel, so that He could be their God. He went to the extreme of Calvary so that He could be our God. But the best news of all is that this is His eternal goal. In Revelation 21: 3 it says: “They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God.” God Himself will be unconditionally, wholly, positively, definitely, completely, unquestionably, and totally ours forever and ever. And won’t that be absolutely wonderful!
Hi Esther,
I’ve enjoyed my visit to your blog. I had to comment on your blog post as Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost for His Highest” has been part of my morning devotions for many years.
Since you mentioned the word wholly as part of the meaning of absolutely, I thought you might like this quote I came across recently:
“Remember you are already wholly in His hand. He has joined Himself to you and you to Him so just dare to recognize this. Don’t ‘give yourself’ to Him—just recognize that He has you whether you like it or not.” Norman Grubb (son-in-law of CT Studd, missionary to China, India and the Congo)
Thank you, Sally (and thank you, Norman Grubb). That’s a wonderful reminder!
