My Scripture reading for today was in 1 John where I read these words, “…continue in Him.” (2:28 NIV) Other versions use the word “abide” or “remain,” but the original word also means to tarry. I like that thought – “tarry in Him.” There is such a sense of unhurriedness about it. However, it became even more meaningful when I looked up the word “tarry” in the dictionary. It means “to linger in expectation.”
God invites us to linger in His presence in expectation. Isn’t that a wonderful invitation? For most of us, tarrying and lingering are not part of our schedules – we hurriedly rush from one activity to another. But God asks us to tarry, to linger in Him, and we can do so “in expectation” that He will be all that we need for each day.
Amen, Esther. And I love “A Sparrow’s Home.”
The word that spoke to me today was “make me full of gladness with Thy presence.” The only way that will happen is if I tarry in His presence.
